Parts of California are experiencing unprecedented wildfire activity that is devastating communities and forcing mass evacuations. Hundreds of homes have been lost, livelihoods destroyed and tragically, some people have lost their loved ones. The COVID-19 pandemic is only an added challenge for first responders and residents.
Even though Alyce is East Coast born and raised, we have a tremendous soft spot for the state of California and its people, as it’s home to over 30% of our customer base. It’s time to rally together to support these communities, and use our platform to amplify our collective efforts.
From Alyce’s internal culture, to how we interact with our customers, to how we build our product, we try to incorporate a “give first” mindset into everything we do as a company. We’ve built our gifting model to allow you to both send a donation-based gift and donate the value of any gift you have received to a charity of your choice. To activate the thousands of people using Alyce daily, we’ve added four organizations to our charitable marketplace that directly impact relief efforts in California.
Whether you are an Alyce gift sender or Alyce gift recipient, you can support the people of California during their time of need. To mirror the good we’re seeing in the Alyce ecosystem and double the impact, Alyce will also be matching the platform donations to these four organizations at the end of Q3 2020.
Four Organizations Supporting California Wildfire Relief Efforts
1. Americares
Americares is a health-focused relief and development organization that responds to people affected by poverty or disaster with life-changing medicine, medical supplies, and health programs.
Americares is working with Unicare, a partner organization located in close proximity to the Apple Fire, to deliver medicines, face masks, hygiene products and other critically needed items for displaced families and health workers caring for patients affected by the fire.
2. American Red Cross
Donations enable the American Red Cross to prepare for, respond to, and help people recover from these disasters. This includes providing food, shelter, relief supplies, emotional support, and other assistance.
In California, more than 500 trained Red Cross disaster workers have been mobilized to support relief efforts on the ground or virtually. They are focused on helping to make sure evacuees have a safe place to stay, including shelters and emergency hotel lodging where possible. Ensure your donation helps people affected by the California wildfires by choosing that option on redcross.org/donate or 800-RED-CROSS.
3. GlobalGiving
GlobalGiving is the largest global crowdfunding community. GlobalGiving has set up a California Wildfire Relief Fund. All donations to this fund will support relief and recovery efforts for Californians affected by the 2020 wildfires.Initially, the fund will help first responders meet survivors’ immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. The fund will transition to support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations in the region.
4. Direct Relief
Direct Relief is a humanitarian aid organization, active in all 50 states and more than 80 countries, with a mission to improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergencies.
Direct Relief responds each year to wildfires throughout the Western U.S., and in its home state of California. During fire responses, Direct Relief provides N-95 masks, medicine, and other resources to healthcare agencies and first responders in wildfire-affected communities across California.
You can search for any of these organizations in Alyce’s donation marketplace when either sending or accepting an Alyce gift.
